>Sketch Every Day: 2.3.11

I’m working on sketches for a possible new project at a local Church so I’ve been researching designs for crosses. Tonight’s five minute sketch is of a few options.

Today marks the first day of Lunar New Year celebrations, so I thought it would be fun to do an art project with this theme. My sister, Mary (who works at an elementary school) suggested this project.

Here’s the photo (found online) that we used as an example. It’s a Chinese lion costume used for the traditional Lion Dance performed during the New Year, at weddings and special celebrations. We even had a Lion Dance at our wedding and it was spectacular!

The kids’ drawings are really terrific! Below are some of the finished lions. They had a great time with this project and wanted to bring them home to “scare mom”…can you guess which one is Mason’s?

Gong Xi Fa Tsai…Xin Nian Kuai Le! Happy New Year!
